A family in love with this land 

The Cafébello saga started in 1960 with Andries de Jong and Tina Van der Heide’s decision to leave their native Holland and set out for the sugar producing island of Jamaica.  Awed by the differences this new tropical world offered, they decided to settle in the Caribbean. In 1962, Andries’ father, Rimmert, encouraged him to develop a new family business in Puerto Rico.  And that started a new page in the history of coffee. From the time of their arrival, this dutch family was captivated with Puerto Rico, making the Island their dreamed home.  Their children, Martha, Jelina, Rimmert, Frederika and Andries Jr., were born in Puerto Rico, further strengthening the family’s bond to the Island. In love with the Caribbean and in partnership with the mountain town of Adjuntas, they decided to farm the land, centering their efforts in the planting of citron trees and coffee.  The small town of Adjuntas came alive with the bustle of the hard work, effort and dedication to excellence that their company displayed from the beginning, turning these two crops into the foundation of Adjuntas’ economy.

Citron Export of R&A de Jong became the world’s largest citron exporter and one of the most important suppliers of coffee to well-known brand name coffee companies internationally. With time, the high quality coffee produced by R&A de Jong became the company’s most significant and recognized product, culminating with the elaboration of their own exclusive coffee brand, Cafébello. 

The Jong family, father and children, continued farming the land with knowledge and experience, harvesting Puerto Rico’s innermost exquisite treasures.  Their love for the land and their fascination with perfection helped them achieve a coffee of excellence and esteemed flavor.  But the agricultural phase did not end there.  It continued evolving while transforming the company, which is now fully dedicated to the complete elaboration of coffee, from harvesting to the moment it reaches your cup. Harvested with love, respect for nature and the full wisdom of a family devoted to the flavors of this land, R&A de Jong, Inc. wants today to share with Puerto Rico, and offer to the whole world, its passion for a coffee of excellence.  That’s why Cafébello was born; as a tribute to the unique flavor of this Island and its essence.
